Facebook is more than just a social media site where you can catch up with old friends. Many businesses are using Facebook to reach a wide and eager audience. There are many ways you can market your business using this popular social media site. If you are new to marketing on Facebook, here is some useful information and a few tips to get you started.
Facebook has three main marketing tools: Pages, Ads, and Groups. These features can be used by anyone, and combined for greater outreach to current and potential customers.
Marketing with Pages
Facebook pages resemble personal profiles, but they can be used for businesses, organizations, and public figures. Users can “Like” a page, ensuring they can be automatically updated when a new post appears on the page’s feed. Pages have some great features. They are free and they are very easy to set up. Facebook pages are the easiest way to get started marketing your business on Facebook. Though this great feature can offer you many benefits, many companies do not use them or use them badly. Here are a few tips to ensure you are getting the most out of your Facebook page:
- Add a Relevant Profile Photo and Cover Image – Just like a personal profile, pages let you choose a profile photo and cover image. Your profile photo should be your logo. However, you have more flexibility with your cover photo. A smart move would be to use a photo of your business with contact information or an image of your most popular products.
- Complete the “About” Section – This section is prominently located right below your profile picture. It is the perfect place to highlight the important information you want your customers to know. Include your basic information, including contact and hours of operation.
- Use Tabs – Tabs are the squares to the right of your About section. Facebook allows you to use up to 10 tabs, though Photos and Likes are required. When choosing which tabs to include, keep your page visitors in mind.
- Post Useful Information – Remember that what you post on your page’s wall will appear in the news feed of those who have “Liked” it. It is important that you post relevant information, such as links to your blog posts, coupon codes, or new product announcements. Do not spam.
Marketing with Groups
Facebook groups are very similar to discussion forums, but also have the benefit of additional features of pages, like a wall. Groups are free and offer the potential for high levels of engagement with your customers. However, they can be very time consuming to manage properly.
Marketing with Ads
In addition to pages and groups, Facebook offers a targeted advertising platform. With Facebook ads, you can target specific geographic areas, ages, education levels, and even the types of devices used for browsing. Facebook is great at gathering information, and as a result offers one of the best targeted advertising programs available online. Better-targeted ads, based on users’ profiles, are going to garner better results. In addition, ads are run on a per-impression or per-click basis which means you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. However, you also can set daily click limits so you do not blow your budget.
